session late market
Thursday, September 21st, 2006 i have this paper for history 114… it’s a research on Filipino culture; anything under the sun…well, something under the moon, i should say, is Kuya Paul and I’s topic…
Session Road late market…
I’ve tried it siguro, twice or more na, pero the one last Sunday was far the most enjoying visit I had…
syempre, when you’re doing a research about a particular topic that involves people, hindi mawawala ang interview…Kuya Paul did most of it, tinatamad ako nung time na yun eh, well, tired actually, dahil sa papers…
aun… I knew how wonderful those cellphone pouches, wrist bands, necklaces were, dati pa… pero when you look closely, when you get to see the person inside those products, you’ll have an alternative way of looking at them…
they’re ordinary people, most of them did not have formal training on arts, but their influences are way on the level of those who actually underwent lessons…
they say, "kailangan kasi ng pera, ito bumebenta, kapag naranasan mong kumalam ang sikmura, doon ka makakahugot ng inspirasyon."
that’s the reality of poverty, you get to learn things that aren’t of your line of expertise just to feed the hungry mouths of your home…
sabi namin ni Kuya Paul, "hindi niyo ba ineexploit ang ethnic traditions ng cordillera niyang lagay na yan, kinokomersyalize niyo ang sacred objects and symbols ng Cordillera region."
for them, ethnicity is defined as "the culture in which they belong"
nowadays, kultura ng mga nagbebenta sa session ang ang paggamit ng bulol, butiki, at kung ano-ano pa sa mga nililikha nilang cellphone pouches, etc., they’re simply expressing themselves; their own ethnicity…
true… although these objects are being transformed into aesthetic purposes, we cannot blame the struggling artists of the session late market. this is the culture they belong into; a culture that is basically led by poverty…
i never bought those accessories with bulol or lizard images; i always had a negative thought on them. "pangaabuso" kasi yun para sakin… pero when i take a look on people buying imitations of girbaud wallets, or even those signature bags over our very own products, hindi ba "pangaabuso" din yun?
